“Science Express” is an innovative mobile science exhibition mounted on a 16 coach AC train and is a unique collaborative initiative of Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC), and Ministry of Railway, Government of India. After 7 successful tours across India, ‘’Science Express’’ has been redesigned on the theme of climate change as 'Science Express – Climate Action Special (SECAS)'. CEE organised a school level ‘Climate Change Education Workshop’ for students in the cities scheduled for its arrival in 2015. The purpose of the workshop was to make children aware about the climate change. The activities were conducted in such a way that the theme of climate change was linked with their curriculum. At the end of the session children were shown a video titled “Concierto Evolucion” which was about mankind, nature and technology followed by a quiz. CEE Jaipur team also organized in a painting competition for Science Express Climate Change Special Train.
This competition provided a platform to students for out of the box thinking, to share, understand cause and effect and also think about sustainable practices. Through colours, children tried to depict what they intend to do or what they are already doing to combat climate change. The colourul paintings of the students reflected their imaginations and the innocent interpretations of the theme of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ , ‘Panchabhuta or Five elements’, ‘Traditional Wisdom’ and ‘My Responsibility for Climate Change’. Shortlisted paintings were used as exhibits on the external windows of the Science Express- Climate Change Special-A unique science exhibition mounted on a 16-coach AC train. These events saw enthusiastic participation of students from schools of Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bhiwari and Udaipur.
