CEE North East’s Stall on ‘DHaAL’ project - South Asian Manthan Award 2016 finalist in Haryana

CEE North East has put up a Daily Hand washing for and Ailment free Life(DHaAL) stall in an International Expo at Surajkund ground, Faridabad, Haryana on February 25, 2017. CEE was invited to put up this stall as DHaAL was selected as the finalist in 13th Manthan Award South Asia 2016. DhaAL has been selected in the category of ‘Health and Wellbeing’ along with other six finalists from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India. The expo provided platform of interactive learning with innovators, customers and investors.

The Award had  invited  nominations from the South Asian (SAARC region) countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka under nine categories such as Government & Citizen Engagement, Health & Well Being, Learning & Education, Environment & Green Energy, Culture & Tourism, Smart Settlements & Urbanization, Business & Commerce, Inclusion & Empowerment and Early Stage.  Mr. Jaison Varghese, Associate Programme Coordinator and Ms. Himashree Bhattacharyya, Programme Officer represented the event on behalf of CEE North East.

Daily Handwashing for an Ailment-free Life (DHaAL) project has won the National Contest on Social Innovation 2016 by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.  It is a partnership model which focuses on four spheres such as DHaAL Group Handwashing Station (GHS) demonstrations in elementary schools, training and capacity building of key stakeholders, education and awareness creation among children and community, and engaging in policy advocacy.  CEE piloted the model with the support of UNICEF and Department of Education (Sarva Shiksha Abhyan), Government of Assam. This project has been recognised as an innovation by the Joint Review Mission of Government of India on Mid Day Meal. 

The Manthan Award was launched on October 10, 2004, by Digital Empowerment Foundation in partnership with World Summit Award, Department of Information Technology, Government of India, and various other stakeholders engaged in promoting digital inclusiveness for development in the whole of South Asia. It is a conclusive exchange platform for ICT practitioners, content creators, e-domain experts and social media change-makers to create a complete ecosystem where the digital tools can be seen as a tool for Education, Business & Infrastructure and the holistic Society Empowerment. The scope of the Award was expanded to cover all the South Asian countries and several countries from the Asia Pacific region.
