Dhobi Ghat and Gandhi Ghat cleaning Campaign in Barrackpore, West Bengal

   
 
 
   

Setting an example of the employee engagement, about 20 volunteers from CESC Ltd participated in the Dhobi Ghat cleaning campaign along with 50 students from Titagarh Arya Vidyalaya and Titagarh Andhra Vidyalayam . A cleanup cum poly bag usage reduction campaign at the Gandhi Ghat was inaugurated by the Ward Councillors, who motivated students to practice cleanliness, reduce and recycle waste. About 60 students from Titagarh Arya Vidyalaya participated in this campaign.

Various groups were formed to do the cleanup and waste segregation. Every group was provided with the basic cleaning tools (e.g., brooms, gunny bags, hand gloves, masks, and aprons). The waste quantification activity was facilitated by CEE. The total paper waste collected was 15.5 kg and plastic waste collected was 35.9 kg in Dhobi Ghat and out of the total 12 kg waste collected at Gandhi Ghat , the plastic waste weighed up to 7 kg .

At Dhobi Ghat , one group played the rope and ladder game with the locals which highlighted good practices that can protect the environment and bad practices that could be threat for the environmental conservation. The CESC Ltd volunteers felicitated the teams collecting maximum paper and plastic. The volunteers and students observed the importance of keeping the surroundings clean, reducing and segregating waste.

At Gandhi Ghat , the students took out a rally from the ghat to the school to spread awareness amongst the locals. They used posters, placards and banners to communicate the message to effectively reduce the use of poly bags.
