Sea Turtle Conservation Education Programme in Schools:

To create awareness about the sea turtles among schools and general community, Sea Turtle Conservation Education programme in Schools was implemented in 40 schools in and around sea turtle nesting areas. Students in all the school implemented projects related to the turtle conservation, protecting and reporting the nestings on the beach etc,. In the month of January, for three years, a one day turtle mela (fair) was organized on the nesting beaches (Morjim, Agonda and Galgibaga are the three major nesting sites for the Olive Ridleys in Goa).

As part of this project, a manual “Turtles in Trouble” and a set of 10 posters on the Turtle, its behaviour, biology and importance in the marine ecosystem were developed and distributed to all 40 schools

To develop a comprehensive locale-specific sea turtle conservation strategy, CEE Goa organized a one day multi-stakeholder consultation to discuss the issue and develop the conservation strategy. Different government departments, NGOs, Scientific institutes and local community participated in the consultation.

The draft strategy has been submitted to the conserved department of the Government of Goa for consideration and implementation.
