Conservation Education Programme in Schools:
awareness about the sea turtles among schools and general community,
Sea Turtle Conservation Education programme in Schools was
implemented in 40 schools in and around sea turtle nesting areas.
Students in all the school implemented projects related to the
turtle conservation, protecting and reporting the nestings on the
beach etc,. In the month of January, for three years, a one day
turtle mela (fair) was organized on the nesting beaches (Morjim,
Agonda and Galgibaga are the three major nesting sites for the Olive
Ridleys in Goa).
As part of
this project, a manual “Turtles in Trouble” and a set of 10 posters
on the Turtle, its behaviour, biology and importance in the marine
ecosystem were developed and distributed to all 40 schools
a comprehensive locale-specific sea turtle conservation strategy,
CEE Goa organized a one day multi-stakeholder consultation to
discuss the issue and develop the conservation strategy. Different
government departments, NGOs, Scientific institutes and local
community participated in the consultation.
strategy has been submitted to the conserved department of the
Government of Goa for consideration and implementation.
