Desert EE and Awarness
Desert EE and Awareness Programme:
CEE in association with Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) and the Department of Environment, developed a set of publications for teachers and eco-club members on the theme Deserts and Desertification. The Maru Paryavavaran Jan Chetna evam Sikshan Karyakaram, under which the publications were developed, mainly covers the 12 desert districts of the state. The materials, which include a teachers’ manual, a field guide for students and a set of posters, were distributed to 3000 eco-clubs in the project districts.
NGC Master Trainers from the project districts underwent a two-day training programme organised by CEE in association with the NA at Jodhpur. Resource persons for the programme included experts from the Zoological Survey of India, Botanical Survey of India and the State Department of Forests. The participants went on a field visit to Machhiya Safari Park for orientation to identifying desert flora and fauna.
CEE facilitated a day-long orientation programme for Master Trainers in Jaipur, which had 45 participants from all the 32 districts of the state. The programme introduced them to creative and innovative approaches to eco-club activities. At another day-long programme for 49 teachers held at Jaisalmer, the participants were oriented to the use of the teachers’ manual and field guides in the classroom and outdoors.
Among other NGC activities in Rajasthan, CEE in consultation with the NA organised a day-long workshop at Barmer for BSG Teachers and associated NGOs to discuss the process of identifying and documenting success stories of NGC eco-club activities in the district.
On CEE’s suggestion, the implementing agency conducted exposure visits of eco-clubs to wildlife sanctuaries and national parks. Refresher training for teachers-in-charge was also conducted at Jaipur.
On request from BSG, CEE facilitated a National Desert Trekking Programme at Bikaner organised by the BSG National Office, Delhi with support from the Bikaner Division, for 67 participants from 16 states. CEE resource persons oriented them on the use of the student field guide specially developed for the Thar Desert. Activities like identification of desert flora and fauna were also demonstrated during this camp.
CEE organised an environmental quiz in consultation with the NA and eco-club members in Jaipur. About 160 students took part in the quiz.
CEE, in association with BSG, organised a day-long orientation programme for eco-club teachers-in-charge to orient them to celebrate Ozone Prevention Day on 14 September in Jaipur. About 90 eco-club teachers-in-charge from the district attended.
