Learnings from Tsunami Learnings from Tsunami
CEE and Oxfam America are working in collaboration to compile learning from organizations involved in tsunami rehabilitation in four countries—India, Indonesia, Maldives and Sri Lanka. The uniqueness of this study is that youth from these countries have been involved in documenting rehabilitation initiatives. The outcome from this research and documentation is to develop two documents, an Analytical Report and a Learning from Tsunami: Case Studies. The former would be used by the disaster management professionals and the later would be expected to be used by youth who may or may not be interested in disaster management but would like to get information on initiatives that are undertaken during disasters by individuals and organisations.
In order to finalize the document a Country Document Finalisation meeting was organized at CEE where representatives from Maldives, India and Sri Lanka presented their findings. The Indonesia country document was presented by the LfT Secretariat. An Expert Consultation meeting where professionals in the field of Disaster management from various organizations from India like Unnati, Abhiyaan, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and CEE provided their feedback on the case studies in general and also about the documents. Their comments and suggestions were taken into consideration and a Plan of Action was worked out for all the countries. Experts have been hired to finalise the documents.
