Solid Waste Management KIHIM:
A new project called SWM Kihim has been initiated in the Kihim village of Alibag taluka of Dist Raigad, Maharashtra with the funding assistance from Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. Kihim is a small village which lacks proper, scientific system for solid waste management and sanitation. The village also has a huge inflow of tourists during weekends due to its beautiful beach. Tourism has also been responsible for the deterioration of the beautiful environment of the village, which has in fact had a negative impact on tourism.
The objectives of the project are:-
The activities under the project have already been initiated. Interaction with the Gram Panchayat is ongoing; local advisory committee is constituted which will monitor the implementation and progress of the project. Gram Panchayat Kihim has identified a location wherein the project office along with the Polybag weaving unit is to be set up. The place has been renovated by HCC. Status and location survey of the Kihim village has been undertaken; routing for the door-to-door collection of waste is in the process of being evolved.
