With support from ICIMOD and Give2Asia, CEE Himalaya and RCE Srinagar organised International Day for Biological Diversity (IBD) in districts of Himalayan States in India. The locations were Baramulla (Jammu & Kashmir); Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand); Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh) and Kokrajhar (Assam) on 22nd May. Several seminars and workshops were organized in Uttarakhand (Central Himalaya); Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh (Terai Region of Central Himalaya); and Kokrajhar, Bodoland Territorial Council, Assam (Northeast India).

In Baramulla district of Jammu-Kashmir state a special programme was organized at Delina village. Focusing on farming community whose livelihood depends on agriculture and horticulture a programme for the awareness was conducted. Free distribution of Soil Health Cards and Seeds was arranged for the local farmers on this occasion.

Distinguish guests put their views on biodiversity and its conservation. The Interaction on topics ranged from integrated community participation, awareness campaigns, formation of protection groups, rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife, sharing of Traditional Knowledge Systems, identification of unknown species and outreach programmes for a sustainable approach towards conservation and development. With effects of Climate Change and anthropogenic interference already making its presence felt in critical habitats, the need of Aid and Action for conservation of Biological Diversity is not just a need of the hour but a wake-up call to secure the future of our future generations
