The Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009 has become a major milestone to ensure that children aged 6 to 14 are able to get free and compulsory education with quality. Section 22 envisages preparation of a School Development Plan (SDP) by the School Management Committee of each school. Lady Bamford Charitable Trust (LBCT) has invited CEE to provide its support as technical partner for capacity building and participatory visioning exercises leading to development of SDP in 5 schools of Jaipur. The major objectives was to build common understanding on quality education, its linkage to SDP and to support school functionaries in making SDP via participatory process. CEE supported capacity building of the stakeholders before the visualisation process for developing SDP. In this line, CEE organised a day long workshop for teachers and principals of these schools. The workshop aimed at building a common understanding on quality education and its parameters focusing on all aspects of school like protection of children's rights, infrastructure, teacher availability, classroom transaction, child assessments, inclusiveness, etc. For strengthening the whole school approach, a variety of activities were conducted with the participants to help them in developing a vision for their school. As part of the programme, an exposure visit and orientation of School Management Committee was organised, which fed into participatory process for making the school development plan for each school. The process provided a chance for involvement of all stake holders of the schools and communities in planning, implementation and upkeep of the school, defining every ones roles and assuming shared and individual responsibility.
