With the support from the Indian Himalayas Climate Adaptation Programme (IHCAP), a project of the Swiss Agency for Development & Cooperation (SDC), CEE observed World Environment Day (WED) 2018 across Indian Himalayan Region (IHR), at 12 locations covering all the States of IHR and 3 other locations in India. WED Celebrations were conducted by performing a variety of activities with a range of stakeholders over one week. Activities were conducted by CEE independently as well as with its partners, dovetailing the 5th June State WED celebration event with the functions organized by the State Nodal Agencies. CEE helped in mobilizing stakeholders adding variety and value to WED celebration in the states.

On WED 2018 theme "Beat Plastic Pollution' CEE with support from SDC and UN Environment (UNEP) developed a Tool Kit- Towards Responsible Use of Plastics- comprising of a teacher's manual, a set of three bi-lingual posters based on 3 Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) of Waste Management and a student's booklet. The Tool Kit was launched by dignitaries at all the locations. It was found very interesting and useful and was liked very much. The Tool Kit generated huge interest amongst all the stakeholders and there were immediate responses to have it in regional languages as well. CEE Offered menu of activities based on priority of the states and in consultation with the WED organizing committees in respective locations. The activities were planned considering the theme of the WED 2018 "Beat Plastic Pollution".

In Jammu & Kashmir the nodal department, Department of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing screened a short film on proper disposal of waste management and preventing plastic pollution. The Minister of State, Forest, Environment and Ecology, Mr. Mir Zahoor Ahmed released books on the studies carried out on Dal Lake and Nigeen Lake and Rakh-e-Arat. Events were organized at Handwara, Baramulla, Srinagar and Rajouri reaching out to over 1200 students, community and other stakeholders.
