'Paryavaran Mitra' is a nationwide initiative by Centre for Environment Education (CEE) to create a network of young leaders from schools across the country, with the awareness, knowledge, commitment, and potential to meet the challenges of environmental sustainability in their own spheres of influence. It envisages schools providing learning spaces and opportunities to students that promote exploration, discovery, thinking and action in the area of environmental sustainability. Paryavaran Mitra, show commitment to make a difference by taking handprint action. The action could be towards resolving a local issue, or to improve the condition within the school premises, and at home, or in the community through project based learning in five thematic areas: Water and Sanitation, Biodiversity and Greening, Culture and Heritage, Energy and Waste Management. The programme reaches to 8300 schools across 33 districts of Rajasthan. The programme is being supported by Rajasthan State Bharat Scouts and Guides and Wipro Earthian.
Under the programme in Rajasthan, around 2000 teachers has been oriented for project base learning and action projects across the state on five themes of the programme, concept of sustainable development, its curriculum linkage and the role of schools and teachers in participating and implementing these programmes in their respective schools and communities. Resource material for action project including 'Explore, Discover, Think, Act' booklet, thematic poster and an oath poster by Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, Paryavaran Ambassador was distributed to 8300 schools. A number of events has been organised to showcase the efforts of schools under the programme at various level along with Paryavaran Mitra Puraskar , a recognition of exemplary leadership shown by schools and its stakeholders in encouraging and engaging students in Handprint actions.
