CEE and Lady Bamford Charitable Trust (LBCT) are jointly implemented a project on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) education in school of Jaipur, Rajasthan under Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidhyalaya campaign, contributing to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The program aimed at engaging students and faculties of the school in a set of activities to understand water in their local context and its sustainability linkages and initiating water management practices in schools by adopting day to day practices in school to improve learning environment and utilizing the instance to develop a conservation attitude in children. Under the program, workshops were organised with students and teachers for improving their understanding on water and allied issues and water audit. For assessment of water and its management practices, collection of baseline data was done through a school water audit sheet developed by CEE. This was used as baseline for water use behaviours at school, depicting how and where water is being used, and where improvements were possible. A school-specific reports through a participatory assessment was developed to have a baseline of school scenario and work out a school specific strategy for further action towards school sanitation and hygiene education. Based on the analysis and allied observations, recommendations were prepared for improving water conservation and management strategies in the school in upcoming years. This included benchmarking water use, establish procedures to check for leaks regularly water monitors to, adopting water harvesting and reusing waste water, posters and educational materials for enhancing awareness and improving understanding of the issue, constitution of water management team/student cabinet.
