Detailed Project report on Solid Waste Management under the JnNURM Guidelines:

Puri, a coastal town of Orissa is situated on the eastern side of the state is well-known pilgrimage. The town is a major tourist and religious destination in eastern India. Puri District is located on a 67 km stretch of sandy beaches that extends from the Chilika Lake to the south of Puri town. The sun temple of Konark is located on this beach at a distance of 35km north of Puri. The total area of Puri is 16.64 sq kms.

A detailed project report was prepared for Orissa Renewable Energy and Development Agency (OREDA) and Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department, Govt. of Orissa for Puri town on Solid Waste Management under the JnNURM Guidelines. The report narrated the present scenario of waste management in contrast to its climatic conditions, landscape, topography, present practices in residential colonies, shopping complexes with regards to its present day population of about 1,58,000 and temples, beach, hotels, restaurants with regards to the floating population also keeping in mind the Rath yatra which draws about 10 lakhs people in a span of 10 days. Hence a thorough study was conducted for 5 days in all the above-cited areas to calculate the total waste generated in the city. An assessment was made based on the present day waste generation statistics to predict the waste generation in the next 25 years and the model plan for waste management as per JnNURM guidelines was prepared.

The detailed project report elaborates the complete management plan that can be adopted for the city for the next 25 years with all modern gadgets and equipments in compliance with the Municipal Solid Waste Management and Handling Rules, 2000 with the detailed budget, drawings and pictures. Sea beach cleaning devices, Biomethanation plant, equipped compost plant, secured landfill site, temple rice waste water management system, chutes for the temple waste, recycling plants are some of the very strong fortes in the detailed project report.
