TT in Kodagu
Teacher Training in Kodagu Two teacher training programmes were organized. The first was at Virajpet, for teachers of Virajpet and Madikeri talukas. Forty-six teachers from primary and high school and junior college participated in this programme.
The second programme, for teachers of Somwarpet taluka, was held at Somwarpet. Thirty-eight teachers from primary and high schools and junior college participated. The training was on the concepts of biodiversity, biodiversity of Kodagu, environmental change and its impact on biodiversity, need for conservation of biodiversity, and alternate technology and conservation of biodiversity. There was a lecture on conducting of eco-club activities and their need. The teachers were given a list of activities related to biodiversity to be conducted at schools. This schedule considered the following aspects:
• Involvement of local people
• Identification and highlighting of local phenomena of historical, ecological, cultural or social importance.
• Indexing and documenting of the above with its relevance to the local biodiversity.
