Parallel Session-1

Safer Roads for Children and Adolescents

Brief Description

Children are among the most vulnerable road users, facing significant risks from road traffic injuries (RTIs), which are a leading cause of death and disability among school-aged children globally. Safe roads are not just a necessity but a fundamental right for children.
This session will spotlight the challenges in ensuring road safety for children and adolescents, focusing on the critical role of collective action and education. Using the "Safe Systems" approach and frameworks like the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety and SDGs 3.6 and 11.2, the session will explore innovative strategies to reduce road crash-related deaths and injuries by 2030.
Through interactive discussions and roundtables, participants will delve into:

  1. The role of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in shaping effective road safety policies and practices.
  2. Engaging parents, educators, local governments, and law enforcement to build safer roads and transport systems.
  3. Catalyzing leadership within schools and communities to champion road safety for children.
  4. Developing an actionable ESD agenda for road safety by 2030.

Join this engaging workshop to collaborate on creating safer, more inclusive road environments and empowering communities to safeguard the lives of young road users.!
